HIS chapter explains in some detail the history, motivation and nature of what is now called active appearance models. Some parts are less crucial for the understanding of this continuation report and they have been included as appendices. They are certainly worth an inspection.
Some of the concepts are better explained and visualised (by the real software) in the cited papers although these may be out-of-date. It is therefore worthwhile having a look at the relevant World Wide Web resources2.1 which are gradually modified, e.g. the pages of Tim Cootes [WWW-7].
