Special thanks must firstly go to my supervisor Chris Taylor for investing
a great deal of time in the project and allowing me to attend relevant
meetings across the country. Without this motivational boost, surely
it would have been much more difficult to spend as many hours as I
have. My advisor Steve Williams has supplied me with persistent support
and occasional bits of advice for which I am particularly grateful.
Always with a calm disposition and paternal backing, he was able to
relieve my worries and alleviate my doubts. I would also like to thank
Mark O'Leary for allowing me to proceed with all my academic duties
while I was at work.
The project is funded by the EPSRC and it benefits greatly from its
inclusion in the MIAS-IRC where I could at times get in contact with
prominent people in the field. I am very thankful for having gotten
the opportunity to work on this exciting project and gaining access
to some very bright minds and supportive members of staff.
Endless gratitude cannot be neglected for support from the following
people:
- Katherine Smith, Carole Twining and Stephen Marsland for putting the
foundations for this work.
- Carole Twining, Tim Cootes [WWW-7] and many other individuals
in ISBE without whom I would have faced impossible challenges.
- My mother Maya whose overwhelming care motivated me to take up this
special opportunity to carry out research.
- My father Gabriel and my grandfather Avner Werner Max for promising
and providing full financial support from my very first day in the
University.
- Felix Goldberg who has been a distant friend and mathematical guru.
He brought up some useful profound discussions at times and has been
a true source of inspiration for several years.
- Dr. David Baxter who advised me to obtain a Ph.D. at Manchester University
and later recommended Imaging Science and Biomedical Engineering,
emphasising its promising vocation.
- Harvey Tobkes and his son Dr. Andrew Tobkes who stressed the potential
of imaging science.
- Fred Kupersmith who suggested I pursue a higher level of qualification.
- Dr. Malcolm Taylor for giving me early advice on my Ph.D. in August
and September 2003.
- Many tributary thanks to Prof. Tony Hegarty who strongly urged me
to join Imaging Science and Biomedical Engineering once the offer
was there.
