Hello all,
I have a network problem which is driving me crazy. any help will be
hightly appreciated.
I have a fresh ubutu intstall. I am trying to connect to the halls
network (manchester university)
eth0 is configured like this :
(from /etc.network/intefaces)
iface eth0 inet dhcp
it starts and retrives an appropiate ip fom the dhcp server, things
look ok, also /etc/resolv.conf looks ok, but i cannot ping anything ,
i tried using the ip of the gateway but no matter which ip i use, i
cannot ping anything.
I suspect problem could be related to ipv6, also tried :
iface eth0 inet6 dhcp
but it didnt work, is there something special i need to do to make
eth0 to work using dhcp and ipv6 ?
any ideas ?
I have a nother linux box(running suse91) and it has no problems at
all, eth0 is ocnfigured to use dhcp and that is it, it comes up and
can talk to the network with no problems at all.
Many many thanks
Arturo
Which version of Ubuntu is this? I actually had good experiences working
with Mandrake and Ubuntu at Halls /as long as I do not rely on DHCP/. When
installing Ubuntu, for instance, at the very early stages within the in-
staller you can input all the addresses to have it working immediately. If
you don't know these addresses, ask the HoRNet staff for it.
Hope it helps,
Roy
