I have a font folder for Gimp both under the "Program" folder and in
"Documents and settings" under my account. Both are empty. I have redirected
Gimp to read fonts from the windows font folder but with no success.
shouldn't it be enough to have just the C:\windows\fonts folder?
I don't see what you need this 're-directing' for. Is it possible to
set symbolic links in Win XP?
I recently read in Slashdot that it's possible with servers, but not triv-
ially so. It is now under development as they have just 'invented' the
concept. I suggest that the OP uses an existing font, renames it and em-
beds it in the fonts directory to 'fool' the GIMP.

What's the Whimp theme?
I think he means the 'WIMP' theme. Windows Impersonator
I wonder if it's a widget thing. I would have thought that it meant Win-
dows Image Manipulation Programs, like LAMP/WAMP. Either way, stripping
off plug-ins and enhancements *before* attempting a first launch is worth-
while. Take one step at a time.
Best wishes,
