You can use some prior knowledge about the location of doorplates.
Investigate the region that is most likely to contain the doorplate and
identify patterns such as rounded objects, rectangles and symmetries. Then,
you might want to search for finer details that charcaterise a doorplate to
conform you have segmented the correct object. Either way, use a top-down
approach, forming some hypothesis and then trying to match it to your
region of interest.
