I found this bit which was published yesterday
(http://www.thewebmarketingblog.com/2005/06/bourbon_update_.html):

Starting on May 20, Googles latest update, dubbed the Bourbon update in
honor of the upcoming webmasterworld conference in New Orleans, has been
wreaking havoc amongst many websites.

It looks like the update included a backlink update and focused on adjusting
the treatment of poor quality links, with off-topic or low quality
reciprocal linking being penalized. Google also appears to have made
changes to their duplicate content detector, which has been reported to now
erroneously pick up original sites as duplicate content in some cases.

[More omitted]
