In response to online services and sharing that's more wiki-based than local
network/locking-based, Abiword joins a preliminary move from Office 2007 and
Live. I am not sure if OpenOffice.org is treading in the same direction.

Abiword has a grammar checker, owing to its licensing (OO.org has some
difficulties). There are/were discussions about this in the LyX mailing
lists as well as nothing properly facilitates collaboration (e.g.
simultaneous editing).
