This learning curve, for a change, is /not/ bound to a commercial product, so
it stays with you for good. This reminds me of a post that appeared in this
newsgroup earlier today. To quote:

| Subject: People who are using windows just don't get it
|
| And I know it. I'd been complacent about linux for quite a while. The
| fact is, GNU/Posix software is sooo good it just doesn't make sense
| once you get the pleasure of using it and seeing how well thought out
| it is to want anything to do with Windows and its stuff again.
|
| It might seem difficult at first, but once you get to know it well
| enough as you know your Windows stuff, or even a lot less, it actually
| is quite a lot simpler, and yet far more powerful.
|
| And what's more, now that I'd switched to linux, I feel that much of my
| knowledge of windows had been a waste. Much of the expertise someone
| gains in regular usage of Windows is about overcoming limitations and
| fixing flaws that shouldn't have been there in the first place!
|
| To hell with it. I will not miss it.
|
| I think someone should set up a website for linux-convert, ex-windows
| users who'd like to burn a virtual effigy of windows to avenge those
| years of useless expertise and impoverished abilities. Ah, that would
| be poetic.
