Yep - and that's exactly what I do.  To be fair, life is easier with several
desktops.
I've never had any trouble with it, but there again, I actually Open files,
rather than closing the app and double-clicking a file to re-start the
whole thing - which would appear to be a common practice amongst users of
certain other OSs.
Every time DFS has moaned about OO.o, I've checked the times for myself. 
I've generally found him to be correct in a qualitative sense (a long time
to open the first time), but incorrect quantatively (his always seems to
take longer than mine!)
Some while ago, I replied to him that I had read somewhere that the latest
version was much faster.  He asked me to post again when I had a reference.
I believe that I now have one, hence my posting, and as far as I am
concerned, "Action Complete":-)
