>From the column:
"On the face of it, Gates seems to be taking his position only because that
darn $100 laptop doesn't run on Microsoft's Windows operating system.
Negroponte chose a free Linux-based operating system ? and then gored
Microsoft by saying he picked it not because it's free, but because it's
better."
Well said. Who will pay for some highly-radiative antennas? And isn't there a
hidden agenda involving Hotmail accounts (and lipstick) for each child? Will
Microsoft go very far to avoid these developing nations from accumulating
familiarity and skills that involve KDE and GNU/Linux? On all counts, the
$100 laptop is worrying news to the folks at Redmond. Most people do not
realise how cheap computers can be. My parents still pay 2-3 times as much
as me for a PC.
