A) Xgl has been in development for awhile. It is the next logical progression for X Windows.
B) 3d desktop is even older. IIRC, it predates FUS on OS X.
C) Creating window thumbnails is not unique to OS X, and certainly not a new concept.



Videos included as well. I can't say I agree with the article (e.g. http://freshmeat.net/projects/3ddesktop/ predates it), but it's worth a read. It's very short too.
