I find the first paragraph rubs me the wrong way. If it said "arranging
image and/or text" instead of "arranging image and text" I'd be happier.
Then glyphs, cave paintings, etc. could and should be included. They were
intended to communicate a message after all.

But I don't like the idea of quantifying and defining design in such
literal terms.
