January Virus and Spam Statistics: 2006 Starts with a Bang
- Four massive virus attacks in January, including a multi-wave attack of 7
variants
- The most aggressive attacks penetrated before the average AV solution could
even release a signature
===
There is no mentioning of operating systems in this articles. Virii (sic) are
simply *assumed* to be attributed to a particular ("the one") operating
system. Spam, which is also discussed in depth, is *assumed* to be
dispatched from a particular troubled environment, which is easy to capture
and manipulate.
It bothers me that little effort is made to make the public (not techies, but
those who religiously read the paper) aware of the key facts. Journalists
are good at whining about the troubled state of the Internet, but refuse to
point a finger, which is PR-sensitive.
