I also like http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/ , which is a
Web-based utility that gives valuable advice and is worth considering for
frequently-accessed pages. For various optimisation and corrections of
markup, there is HTMLTidy.

http://tidy.sourceforge.net/

All are free utilities and the latter can be used in batch-mode and is
scriptable.
