We've had linux at work for donkey's years; initially, one of our
admin guys was dropping slack boxes on top-end 386 machines to work as
print servers and firewalls, and making nwserv (netware) servers from
higher-end machines; later, he did samba servers and a webserver and
so on in the same way. It was all excellent, cost next to nothing,
never went wrong, was fully backed up, and just worked.
Perhaps there's no need to say it, but this was, in the main, done under
the radar.
