Under Blair? No, his idea of making the police/fire/ambulance services
efficient, means cut the numbers to bare minimum.
Next to Blairs own constituency is Thornaby, on a night at weekends there
was three policemen. If there was an emergency call two had to go, that
left one manning the shop, so the next emergency call had to wait.
Saturday night, who is going to need a Policeman, Fireman or Ambulance on a
Saturday night, one man cover the whole of the UK would do wouldn't it, and
then have him cleaning windows between calls so make a few quid for the
xmas ball.
Then Blair says to them, you have to show better results than when they were
say 20 policemen covering the same area.
That isn't what I call efficient.
Fire stations, bare minimum manning levels, minimum stations and tenders
that they can get away with. (labour and conservative were reducing those
so voting either in doesn't help).
The poli-tit-ians argument about Firemen/stations? They spend a lot of time
not fighting fires. But doesn't that simply mean that they have been very
successfull with their education programs? The whole point is that they are
a service ready to deal with an emergency I would have thought.
I always think it's a bit stupid that we in britland, being one of the
worlds richest, penny pinch over public and emergency services. I would
much rather my taxes paid for a million idol Policemen/Firemen than one
crappy statue or bleeding dinners for bleeding foriegn poly tit ians.
OFF TOPIC!!!!! Who says its bleeding off topic? The Fire service have
already said they are going to use a Linux system. Redhat I believe.
