After takin' a swig o' grog, Roy Schestowitz belched out this bit o' wisdom:

NFS (at least through the version I'm using (3?)) can be very slow
sometimes. Almost as slow as Windows file sharing.

(I had a good laugh the other day at XP's expense. I go to map a
network drive. I navigate to our domain/workgroup, find the server I
need, and click on it.

The hourglass. Tried a few times.

Finally, I go to my Linux box, add a line for the desired share,
and mount the share. No problem at all. Just a half-second wait for
the mount to complete.

What's up with XP?
