I can assure you that I spent (or put negatively -- wasted) hours of my life
installing Windows codecs, often to no avail.

Why say "no" to Windows when Windows says "no" to you? Its functionality (or
lack thereof) repels any user who has *seen*other platforms. Its licensing
says no to pretty much everything.
