Third, it had a bad reputation for upgrades becoming disasters once
installed on a hard drive.

I'd heard of that and decided to try it anyway. The upgrades bit me
twice. Hard. In one case I couldn't get back in at all. I got a kernel
panic whether I chose the old one or the new. In the other I could get
in, but X, networking and several libraries had huge problems.

I don't know how they're doing wrt what I mentioned above. I use a
couple for travel and/or rescue. I keep a recent copy of Games Knoppix
with me when I have to take Sinister Jr to work so he can be occupied
while I waste time fighting with Windwoes.
