Not only that, but Google now has the highest revenues of any media
publisher, including those listed above, and higher profits than either
of these companies.  The combination of being able to target
advertizing directly to those who actually WANT to see exactly what is
being advertized is a huge win.  In addition, the ability to provide
that without paying huge license fees on a "per user" basis or
"concurrent user" basis.

Over time, they have added some proprietary software, but they have
always been very careful to make sure that they got value for the work
being done.
