There is here, at least for Television and Radio and so on. This is why
our news services are so completely different to what the US has to put
up with. Our news is required *by law* to be even and balanced, if it
is not, the broadcaster risks all kinds of punishments. Equally, we
have an advertising standards agency to ensure that advertising material
meets appropriate standards, too. About the only area where you're
allowed to out and out lie is in Women's beauty products, where you can
claim pretty much whatever you want.
I've said this many times here, but the US has a huge problem with its
biassed media system, it dominates the politics, and is essentially an
enormous corporate-interest propaganda machine.
The US should look to catch up with some of our laws in this area.
