[News] Pondering Microsoft's Initiative to Break Adobe Flash

Where's Microsoft's 'Flash killer'?

| Everywhere (WPF/e), Microsoft's so-called Flash killer?

The grand plan: while Flash is closed-source it hasn't much of a competitive
edge (think Java, which Sun argues will benefit, profit-wise, from a GPL
license). Thus, it can be replaced (forcefed using, e.g. VS prebundling) by
a proprietary technology that will toss competing products out of the loop
and give Microsoft control of a 'standard'. Just like DirectX, DRM, OpenXML,
VB, XPS, MS 'HTML' and 'CSS'. The secret ingredient is propaganda that
underestimates the marketshare of competing platforms, overestimates
figures, and fabricates quick 'facts' that scare governments and consortia.
