Google Groups neither displays them nor preserves them. However, if posted
with a tag, the tag quietly exists. Replies are another point where things
go wrong.
By the way, I noticed that the news Google Groups UI (still in beta) makes
quoting on reply the default setting. This, as opposed to the previous rev,
yet much like the earlier prototypes, will ensure less nuisance to those who
perceive newsgroups as UseNet rather than Google-hosted forums. There's some
gap to suggest that top-posting might be encouraging because G2, much like
OE/Outlook, adds new lines atop the quoted text. There's no pointer
placement involved though.
