Ugh. U3 sucks. Instructions on getting rid of it are available here:

Unfortunately, the program to get rid of U3 and turn your device back
into a decent thumb drive only runs on Windows, which is annoying if you
bought a thumb drive for your Mac or Linux box, and don't keep a Windows
box around.
