Hi,

There is a project for synchronisation of Linux with Windows CE (Pocket PC)
devices, but I suspect it's more GNOME desktop-oriented. It is said to be
mature and work quite well. Ubuntu, for example, may support this 'out of
the box', but I am not entirely sure. If you choose a different route that
isn't seamless, here is what I suggest.

Your addresses reside in ~/.kde/share/apps/kabc. The VCF format isn't really
standardised for all I can tell. You should be able to export your address
book/s from the front end and then import them into the application that
communicates, or synchronises, or does a one-time accommodation of data on
the hand-held. As for KMail, the route to go is to stick to MBOX format (you
can choose maildir or MBOX, among other formats IIRC. Then, you can let your
data 'swing' from one application to another. I understand that in newer
versions of KDE, mail no longer resides under ~/Mail, but wherever it is
(probably deeper under ~/.kde), make sure it remains in open and
commonly-understood formats. Outlook should be able to import it as well.
Thunderbird likewise (done this migration route before when departing from
KMail).

It is possible to synchronise Thunderbird (in Windows at least) with a
Palm-powered device, but I am not sure about pocket PC. Whatever you do,
don't let your data (e.g. addresses, mail) be 'contaminated' with
proprietary lockins. I'd recommend that you stay away from Outlook, albeit
Thunderbird can import data, settings, and addresses from it (I am not sure
if it's partly lossy).

I hope you find an import/export (even grafting of directories is a
possibility) that suits you. As a general pirce of advice, choosing a mobile
device that's lockin-inclined is a poor choice, but I understand and
apprciate that the choice was not yours.

Best wishes,

Roy
