It doesn't work, I tried fitting a Niagara II chip into my PC but the pins
don't line up. Gads, put a chip like that in desktops and there'd never be
a speed question again, the cooling tower would double as a nice garden
ornament.
I had a look to see if MS really did slip Sun a bung, 2billion in a ten year
deal? What on earth is Sun thinking of? Well it seems from reading the
story on cnet news, that it is basically to get out of the anti-trust thing
that each was bashing the other with. MS got the bloodier nose by the looks
of it, it has been worded such that we are meant to think each company is
investing in the other, but from the values given Sun still has a fair
amount of change in it's pockets.
More important than the money is the fact that now Sun has wad of cash in
it's pocket it is no longer persuing the European action but also will file
in support of MS's action, a stay of execution. Seems a case of 'We're
alright Jack, screw the rest of you'.
I must say that I am very disapointed with Sun in this, can't blame them for
taking the dosh when they so obviously need it, but I would have thought
that the EU action was much more important for the long term.
And what is this great thing that MS and Sun are going to work on together?
Well it turns out that it is Directory access. Has Sun never heard of Samba
then?
