It tells apart the different users on the same machine and in the case of MSN
Messenger it's a matter of identity and individuality. I believe you can
easily hack those per-user avatar (maybe it's simpler in Vista or well
hidden in XP), as opposed to trivially change them with the MSN Messenger
UI.
