Regardless of the accuracy of Thomson's assertions (or lack thereof),
there are some valid issues to address. There is no doubt that America
has a trigger-happy culture, and in combination with ultra-violent
films, television, games, and even music (listened to any rap lately?),
this has produced an environment conducive to breeding killers. Add to
that some of the most lax (non-existent?) gun laws in the world, and a
population of highly impressionable young people, constantly being
brainwashed by the aforementioned indoctrination, and the result is 30
dead bodies on campus.
And don't doubt the reality of brainwashing, advertising companies
around the world absolutely *depend* on it for survival, every day.
As another example, much of the "training" that soldiers receive before
mobilisation is as much about hardening their minds, as it is about
hardening their bodies.
I wonder if Microsoft still think their "viral-marketing" campaign is
"cool"?:
