All that "sunshine" you are referring to is nothing but glitter
from your Linux OS.  Who said "All that glitters is not gold..."?
I think he meant the OSS promises. Smart guy that Tolkien.

Regarding variety, maybe you should stayed with Windows
and tried a different wife/girlfriend/cousin/sister for variety.
The frustration you are feeling would be less consuming.
