Review: The Linux Powered Sandisk Sansa Connect PMP

,----[ Quote ]
| So what do I think of the Sansa Connect? Honestly, I love it. I'd like to see
| the ability to input your own personal web radio stations and accept external
| pluggable playlists (ie, playlists in the standard pls format added via the
| microsd slot) in future versions of the firmware so you don't need to plug
| the unit into a computer to update playlists ever again. But aside from those
| wants, it's really a great player. The initial learning curve is about 10-15
| minutes before you get everything figured out, but after that it becomes very
| easy and comfortable to use. Currently the device is only available in a 4gb
| version (after counting IOS and system files, you really only get 3.5 gigs of
| SSHD space), but future 8 and 16gb versions should appear after the first of
| the year.

Archos 705 "Mobile DVR" with WiFi unveiled, thanks FCC

,----[ Quote ]
| Very little is known about the functionality so far, but that whole
| "Mobile DVR" tag on the name could imply that Archos is packing a
| bit more TV-centric functionality into the device -- rumors have
| mentioned the possibility of a built-in TV tuner -- or perhaps just
| trying to position the same old, same old a tad bit better in the market.

| If Apple's iPod is the nicely tuned Porsche of portable media players and

iUbi Blue (PMP2500B) popping up at AMP3

,----[ Quote ]
| First of all, there's the 4.3-inch (widescreen), 16.7m
| color TFT LCD. Although we thought the GUI looked a bit
| "blue" during the unit's first stages of development, a
| resolution of 480 x 272 never hurt anyone either. Best
| of all is probably the huge bucket of supported file
| formats: MPEG 1, 2, 4 DivX 3.X, DivX 4.X, DivX 5.X,
| Svid, WMV9, H.264, AVI, OGM, WMV 7, 8, MOV and Real
| video. Need more? Sure, MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG, AC-3,
| ASF, AAC-LC, G.726 for video is also included in the
| package deal. Output resolutions upto 720 x 480
| pixels (@30fps) and output volumes of 32mW per
| channel (via a Wolfson 3D sound chip) bolster the
| 2500B's impressive set of specs.

iPod + Linux = Portable Linux?

,----[ Quote ]
| This isn't something that every iPod owner is going to install and mess
| with, and I'm sure it's something that Apple isn?t very happy about
| because they obviously didn't intend for their product to be used in
| this way. However, for those of us who are constantly striving to get
| more out of our hardware, iPodLinux is a fun venture to watch as it
| furthers the reach of the capabilities of both the iPod and Linux.
