Microsoft vs. Google in Office Software: What's The End Game?

,----[ Quote ]
| Simply put, Google is a fly on the elephant that is Microsoft
| right now. But all Google has to do is make Microsoft defend the
| Office business. If Microsoft has to respond to Google Docs-it
| doesn't yet-the software giant won't be able to focus on search and
| keyword advertising. Even a company with Microsoft's cash pile
| has limited resources.

Google is OpenDocument-friendly (part of the ODF alliance; boasts ODF
export), so their on-line suite should play nice with all the Open Source
office suites that run natively on the desktop. You could prepare a
presentation in OOo, for example, then upload it to Google and access it
from the Web browser anywhere (all software is on the server, so no
installations are needed). Microsoft's Web-based Office is said to be in a
poor state.
