It's ineffective as well. A proof-of-concept crack from a 20-year-old is a
real embarrassment to this. There are no exceptions. iTunes was cracked. WMP
DRM was cracked. Blu-ray, HD-DVD, DVD...

Secret-keeping is hard, let alone devising an effective yet simple algorithm.
Even SHA1 is said to have been rocked recently.
