Out of interest, get a 'clean' P4 machine (eg ex corporate Compaq
desktop) from Turners etc and try installing Windows XP. Some hours
later you will succeed, after you have rounded up (using another net
connected computer) and loaded all the drivers.
Now try installing Linux (eg Debian 'testing' distribution) on that
computer - it just installs, gets a DHCP address and runs.
