The advantage of the Web-based paradigm is not only interoperability, but
also portability (access from anywhere). When Yahoo dropped their homegrown
code and picked PHP instead, then their commitments to Open Source were
re-prioritised. Yahoo don't abuse Linux as much as other companies do.
