There are several benefits to SVG for icons, widgets and such that don't
show in that example. For one, it's vector based, rather than pixel
based. So increasing or decreasing the resolution doesn't make the icons
<way too big> or <way too small>. It also makes it easy to add animated
flourishes to icons and widgets. Which can be nothing more than eye
candy, but can also offer visual clues to things like process state, and
focus, etc.
It's also shiny :)
