There's a few pitfalls in "free". Some packages are
labeled "for non commercial use only", for example.
(Presumably, it should be obvious which ones, if one
does use Linux in a commercial setting. Usually not a
gigantic worry.)

Far more than some. :-)

That's a very tall claim, mostly because I can think
of a *lot* of operating systems. Of course it's more
configurable than a certain other offering. :-)

Actually, it can propagate them; to Linux even the worst
of Windows malware is just so much data. But there are
products that can disinfect Linux mailspools, if one needs
that capability.

It depends. I've had Linux (probably 2.2 but I'd have
to look) running on a 4 MB 386/20 motherboard, but don't
expect miracles on such ancient hardware.

To be sure, I suspect most slowdown problems are because
of insufficient RAM more than a sluggish CPU. A few
nanoseconds for RAM, but a few *milliseconds* if one has
to page to the drive.

To some extent this might be true. Direct support is
probably more appreciated by package submitters, of course,
but certainly every box running Linux is one more box
that might wrest control of the Web from the vagaries
of the Microsoft Marketing machine, and at least allow
the Web to develop properly, using declared standards,
as opposed to ad-hoc Microsoft-created ones.

A duplicate of (1), for the most part.

A big boon for those willing to pay the price of compiling their
software locally.

AFAIK, generally true.

Tux versus flag. Somehow, I don't see this being all
that compelling a reason to use Linux (though the penguin
is cute :-) ). Of course, the other 9 more than make up
for it.

Linux. Because Windows' Blue Screen Of Death is just
way too frightening to novice users.
