The days when a CD-ROM drive was needed are approaching an end, unless you
use Windows and rely on shrink-wrapped software. At work, for example, I
have not used the CD-ROM drive for almost 3 years. 3 years ago I used it to
play some music. At home, on the other hand, judging by the media directory,
I only ever entered half a dozen CD's into the drive (mainly if not only
music). This PC is over a year old...
What about PC's without a CD-ROM drive? I have a 486 PC with a faulty drive,
but it would be simpler and more effective to throw in a LAN card than to
get a large Cd-ROM drive that's compatible. The Windows installation (95/98)
make it possible to accommodate the drive with the ISO's.
