[News] rPath Takes Linux to the Forefront of Virtual Appliances

Talking virtualization with rPath

,----[ Quote ]
| Microsoft is arriving late to virtualization, as it often does to
| a new technology. In 2006, Microsoft announced cooperative development
| with XenSource, and introduced its Test Drive program, with four
| sample appliances. Adams describes these developments as "good
| tactical moves."
|
| However, he adds that Microsoft "is probably not going to be
| shipping production ready stuff until later in 2007," which will
| probably be somewhat behind its competitors like VMware.

Microsoft: always behind, always waking up when it's too late, always
catching up, always playing dirty to intercept those in the lead (e.g.
Netscape, Real, maybe even Adobe). Office, UI... all just copied and
sometimes bundled. Java is still going strong despite the unethical play and
OpenGL is suppressed by inferior proprietary alternatives. To name just a
few examples...
