Once again, the disruptive nature of open-source is completely missed.
Open source software is not about having /proprietary/ technology
available; clearly, if everything is open-source, you /cannot/ have
that. It's about the new, disruptive, spaces; integration, support and
bespoke software services. Red Hat have considerable expertise in Linux
itself, which means that they are well placed to offer capabilities in
integration, support and bespoke services.
Brand recognition is useful, of course, but misunderstanding what the
brand actually represents is not all that helpful.
