There you go, why would software houses bother to write for Vista, whether
that is applications or drivers, when they know that work will likely be
wasted, not even a timescale available for them to decide if a small amount
of time can be safely budgeted into a small project.

MS may have pots of money but not every software house has money to throw
away on wasted development time. 

Imagine if Linux was developed like Vista. A broken Debian release, that has
a knockon effect to every derived distro. Then Debian saying 'Don't worry
chaps, it will be fixed by some time next year. In the mean time just don't
install anything or try to run any software'.
