Should Novell return the funds to Microsoft, and/or renegotiate the deal
with the patent rubbish removed from it, then, and *only* then, will I
remotely believe that there is any real contrition in the Novell camp.
Personally, I do not believe that Hovsepian didn't know what he was doing.
I'm quite happy to accept that he's reasonably incompetent around this
area, of course, and failed to see the enormous gaping man-trap two
feet in front of him, but I'm certain that he would have had a legal
team looking over the deal anyway, to protect himself from such problems.

The implications of this particular deal will reverberate around the
free software world for years, however, GPLV3 should prevent Mr
Hovsepian from being "ramrodded" in the same way again.
