actually, the 360 will also play HD-DVD's.  Both the elite and the 360 
require an external drive.  The 360 will also do 1080p, as will the 
elite.  The 360 can also use the 120gig hdd.  Only two things really 
differentiate the elite from the 360:  it's black and has hdmi output.  
Given that the 360 does 1080, it's a very minor differentiation.

I hate microsofts monopoly, and true to microsoft form, there are many 
crappy things about the xbox, but overall it's pretty good.
