The common sentiment appears to negative, involving confrontation that is
followed by histant acceptance or a move to another O/S (Windows XP or
Linux). Some even choose to buy a new computer (an Apple Mac).
In a perfect world, people would of course have choice. It is worrying that a
series of connections has become so tight that any attempt to change the
status quo leads to betrayal, backlash, and risk.
The good news to folks whose 'upgrade' is forever procrastinated is that they
will not need to purchase new hardware any time soon. Many of these
'Vista-ready' PCs are only guaranteed to cope with a minimal setup of
Windows Vista. Demos are showing Vista in its 'full glory' in the mean time,
which is by all means a case of deceptive advertising. But who will be
willing to fight an army of Microsoft lawyers? Not even an attempt at class
action was fruitful. Therein lies another danger, which is the /legal/ power
and network of liabilities in a deadlocked industry. Everyone is covering
everyone's backs. The US government and Gary M. are a good example of this.
