A lot of heavy lifting moves to the servers and supercomputer with
virtualisation (see link at the very bottom). It's part of the end of a 'fat'
desktop.
'Visionary' Gates thought (maybe still thinks) that people will have
supercomputers on their desks, but then again, he also thinks that all people
are very wealthy and will spend $5000-10,000 on a PC as big as a table.
