"Now, the benefits of open source are being realized in content management
systems (CMS), traditionally a vendor controlled world of expensive
licensing and closed APIs"

Where has this guy been for the last 10 years? Outer Mongolia? CMS
systems are NOT just now becoming Open Source, nor have closed source CMS
systems gone away. In fact, nothing much has changed in the world of CMS
in the last 10 years. The big names still sell their products and
services, the open source people keep pushing out more and more CMS's and
updates. It's the status quo.
