I'm sure America's tolerance for unethical behaviour in its corporations
is no doubt partly responsible for the (rest of) the world's loss of
confidence in the US in general, but there are other more obvious
contributing factors, like it's persistent invasion of foreign
countries, for example, and a human rights record that makes China look
like a utopian paradise by comparison. Then of course, there's "Dubya":
