I know quite a few people who do. It's important, however, not to be angry with
those who foolishly spread media that's infected with proprietary codecs (it's
usually done naively, by tools that try to establish self-serving lock-ins).
In my thesis, for example, I chose to make my videos compression-free, which
made some of them 100 times larger than they could be. I'll always remember
how my Supervisor struggled to access work of his previous student. Why? He
didn't have the requires codecs. Bloody digital obsolescence. What happens
when the companies behind the codecs die and the proprietary software goes to
the bit bucket? Let science die along with the companies, just because people
put access to their work in the hand of others (unknowingly).
The companies don't care. The costumers do.
