It's about control Vs autonomy and, unsurprisingly, China does not wish
to be controlled by the West. The most fundamental control mechanism is
inhibiting the dissemination and implementation of knowledge, which is
what patents are all about. Is it any surprise that China should reject
pseudo-standards designed to place the control of information into the
hands of a greedy American monopoliser?
Allowing corporations to arbitrarily control the dissemination of ideas,
and the implementation of invention, neither benefits society nor allows
progress, it merely financially benefits those greedy corporations that
hold the key (patent) to the bookcase. The principles of innovation have
been perverted into a grotesque exploitation of ideas for profit. Rather
than merely capitalising on the industrial implementation of ideas, it's
the idea's themselves which have be commoditised. This control mechanism
is instrumental in the spread of corporatism, and part of the reason the
capitalist societies of the world spawn dangerous monopolies, mutating a
democracy into a corporate dictatorship.
