SymphonyOne 2008.1 Released
,----[ Quote ]
| The SymphonyOS Project is pleased to announce the release of SymphonyOne
| 2008.1, our first major release in almost a year. SymphonyOne is an almost
| 100% rewrite of all the Mezzo desktop code taking advantage of more features
| of fvwm to provide a smaller footprint and more stable environment. Based on
| Ubuntu 7.10, SymphonyOne provides a complete desktop environment and full
| Ubuntu compatibility on systems with as little as a 200mhz processor

| And I was pleasantly surprised with how well it all works. With a "debugfull"

Linux For Older PC Hardware
,----[ Quote ]
| With the relatively old hardware we had used with our select benchmarks, the
| five desktop Linux distributions tested performed close to each other but
| Mandriva 2008 Beta 1 had taken a surprising lead in some instances. This DVD
| distribution is backed by the Linux 2.6.22 kernel, GNOME 2.19 / KDE 3.5.7,
| and has a variety of other benefits such as NTFS write support, AppArmor,
| Compiz Fusion, a new wireless stack. While Mandriva had a lead in these
| benchmarks and with the SiS 650GX-backed Pentium 4 "A" setup, we cannot call
| a decisive winner and that we had only tried out five desktop distributions
| out of the dozens (hundreds) available.
