Well admittedly characterizing the xbox as a flop is a bit silly.
Although the Zune has gone over a bit like a lead balloon. The probably
all boils down to Microsoft being able to make a better tie between
their legacy products and the xbox (vs. the Zune).

Microsoft was already pretty well established as the driving force
in PC gaming (through the control of the relevant proprietary OS level
APIs) before releasing the xbox which was a glorified PC to begin with.
The development version of the original xbox even looked like a normal
PC.

MS didn't have that advantage to take advantage of with the Zune
and the better tech company was already there ahead of them.

Unfortunately, the universe will not conform itself to
your fantasies. You have to manage based on what really happens |||
rather than what you would like to happen. This is true of personal / | \
affairs, government and business.
